The Q2 Elimipurge Sample Cylinder™ is an innovative DOT-3E 1800 sample cylinder designed to sample Natural Gas that is at or near its dew point or under low ambient temperature conditions. It solves several problems associated with the use of conventional cylinders when sampling wet Natural Gas such as cylinder cleaning and purging; purging being the single largest source of error. This is exemplified when reviewing the GPA 2166 and API 14.1 spot sampling methods which are devoted primarily to cylinder purging. The most unique features of the Q2, the Flexible Isolation Barrier (FIB™) and integral valving, combine to create a cylinder that eliminates both cylinder cleaning and purging problems. The FIB™ is an inert barrier that can easily be collapsed to create a sample cavity of essentially zero initial internal volume avoiding sample cavity purging and drastically reducing sample time. Only the disposable FIB™ and a small, easily accessible area inside of the head come in contact with the sample, reducing cleaning time and removing the risk of sample distortion due to residuals. The Q2 can be used to execute any GPA/API cylinder sampling method. The preferred method* for use when sampling wet Natural Gas with the Q2 is the "Line Purge and Cylinder Fill" method, which requires the Q2 manifold. The manifold is used to ensure that the sample path, from the process valve to the ball of the cylinder inlet valve, is thoroughly purged. The 1/16" diameter passageway of the Q2 manifold allows for quick purging and prevents any liquids from accumulating in the sample path. After the sample path has been purged, the Q2 is then filled with a representative sample in one fill cycle. Using this method also reduces the venting of purge gas by 99% making the cylinder environmentally friendly.
The three piece construction of the Q2 Elimipurge Sample Cylinder™ provides quick and easy FIB™ replacement and internal inspection. Valves are recessed and integrated into the head to minimize the volume of the sample path and to prevent them from being damaged during transportation.
